LIPODEMIA – Exercises for lipid edema
Appropriate physical activity is a very important part of lipedema therapy. Find out what exercises are worth doing and how pressotherapy supports treatment.
- With the right exercises and diet, you can alleviate the unpleasant symptoms associated with lipedema.
- Stretching exercises, as well as walking and marching, are recommended.
- When undertaking physical activity, it is worth remembering that the main goal of exercise is to stimulate circulation
- Lipodema is a chronic disease. It manifests itself as uncontrolled fat accumulation in the lower limbs (less commonly in the upper limbs) and mainly affects women.
- The etiology of the disease is not fully understood – it is assumed that it may result from hormonal disorders or have a genetic basis. Although lipid edema is not the result of a poor diet or lack of physical activity, it is through appropriate exercise and a proper diet that the unpleasant symptoms associated with lipedema, such as pain and heaviness in the limbs, can be alleviated and edema reduced.

What physical activity is recommended for patients suffering from lipodema?
Not all physical activities are equally beneficial for lipodema. Exercises that put a lot of strain on the joints should definitely be avoided. Stretching exercises, as well as walking and marching (Nordic walking may be a good idea) are recommended. It is also worth signing up for a swimming pool. In the case of lipid edema, not only swimming but also various water activities, such as water aerobics, will be beneficial. When undertaking physical activity, it is worth remembering that the main goal of exercise is to stimulate circulation, not to lose weight.
We recommend: LIPODEMIA – manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) can help.
Is it worth using pressotherapy treatments?
Various forms of therapy are used to treat lipid edema, one of which is pressotherapy, or mechanical lymphatic drainage. During the treatment, compression cuffs are placed on the limbs affected by edema and slowly filled with air. The pressure stimulates the lymphatic system and promotes lymph flow. Pressotherapy helps, among other things, to combat pain caused by lipodema and improves skin condition. Importantly, thanks to special devices, the treatments can be performed independently at home, whenever the patient feels the need.
